Summer 2017 BrighterLifeCare had the opportunity to develop their independence by learning a new set of skills, whilst giving back to the community at the same time.
We spent 6 weeks working through a cooking programme. Learning about good food choices, health and safety in the kitchen, creating me foods and trying new foods. With the end goal being to make and serve some of the food they learnt how to cook for a homeless shelter in Birmingham. Not only was this activity personally enjoyed by all but allowed our service users to feel a real sense of achievement and proud to give something back to those less fortunate than themselves. It was an honour to support our young people during this activity. When we gathered feedback for this particular activity, the most common response was;
“I really enjoyed feeding the homeless people. Please can we do it again?"
